How to use the Windows or Mac App to create high-quality screen recordings.

Updated over a week ago

The Desktop App is a client application specifically designed to capture your screen for optimal results. Like other screen recording tools, the Desktop App allows you to record your entire screen, a specific application, a selected area, or even a portable device.

💡 Capturing iPhone or iPad devices is only available in the macOS Desktop App. To record an Android screen, or if you are using Windows, use the Upload Mobile Recording feature in the Screen Recordings tab.

Additionally, you have several options to enhance your recording experience: you can hide desktop icons (they won’t appear in the recording but will remain visible to you), set a countdown timer to prepare before recording, hide the Dock or the app icon, and mute notifications during your recording session.

What’s unique about the Desktop App?

Unlike traditional screen recorders, the Desktop App doesn’t just capture your screen — it also collects important metadata during recording. Metadata helps AI generate accurate narration scripts and align your narration precisely with the video.

Adjust screen size

If you are planning to record the contents of a browser tab it's recommended to exclude the frame of the browser window and the address bar from your recording.

  • Before you hit record, click the Adjust Recording Area button on the recording toolbar.

  • Drag the recording area borders so you exclude the window’s header and address bar. This removes unnecessary clutter from your recording and keeps the viewer’s attention on the main content.Pause during recording

Pause during recording

Keyboard shortcuts can be particularly useful when recording longer videos, switching between screens, or reviewing your script before continuing. You can pause and resume the video using Ctrl + Cmd + P (Mac) or Ctrl + Alt + P (Windows).

When the session is paused, the recording bar will begin to blink red, making it clear that it’s not actively recording.

While paused, you’re free to change tabs, review your notes, or open another application to get ready for the next segment of your recording.

To continue recording, press the Resume button or use the same keyboard shortcut. Your recording will pick up exactly where you left off, providing a seamless final product for your viewers.
